I was recently driving along the road here in Hawaii and something came crashing at my auto glass. Seeing as your company is in Hawaii, Honolulu Auto Glass, you understand that the roads here are not always the safest or the cleanest so you really need to be prepared for anything. Luckily, I was completely fine, but my windshield was not okay. I ended up driving away with a large crack on the auto glass. I have read that I need to get it fixed immediately so that is exactly what I plan to do. My question for you though is how do I know if it can simply be repaired or if I need to have the entire piece of auto glass replaced? I just want to be prepared for anything that is thrown my way. I really do not want to expect to spend one thing and then be surprised when I get a bill for a whole lot more money. If you could just give me some information on how to tell if it can be repaired or if it must be replaced that would be much appreciated.

Dear Safe Driver,

We think it is great that you know that you need to have your auto glass fixed as soon as possible. And we completely understand what you mean when you say the driving conditions here are a little crazy in some areas. Having to repair a crack on your windshield can be quite tricky. Our skilled technicians are happy to give you some advice on how to tell if you can have your auto glass repaired or if you may need it completely replaced.

One way you can tell is by looking at how large the crack in the auto glass really is. If it is a very small crack that is thin and not long, then you can probably get it repaired quite easily. If you are unsure, you should take out a tape measure and actually measure the length of the crack. If the crack happens to be fifteen centimeters or longer, you will most likely need to have the auto glass replaced.

Another reason the auto glass may need to be replaced is depending on where the crack is on your windshield. If the crack is quite large and it is in the line of sight for the driver, than according to the law you must have the windshield replaced.

If you think the crack is fairly small and is not in the line of sight, you should be fine with just having it repaired. If you are unsure, going to a skilled professional, such as us, is a great way to find out. As long as you go to a company that is knowledgeable, you should not have to worry about receiving bad information from them about replacing or repairing your windshield.
